Javier Olavarria, was managing his family’s paper business in South America when he was first introduced to Barossa Valley Shiraz by a friend. Falling in love with it, and wanting to share that love with others, he decided to start a business importing Australian wines into Chile, Ecuador and Peru under his own label. His next step was to contact The Australian Trade Commission and find out all that he could about the drinks industry in Australia. When they invited him on a trade mission to Melbourne and Sydney to attend Fine Food Australia, the largest F&B show in the country, he jumped at the chance.
During his visit J.O. noticed that the oldest Australian spirit, Bundaberg Rum has a very confusing message. Bundaberg is an Australian rum with a German name and a polar bear mascot. He wondered why the vast natural resources and unique spirit of Australia wasn’t reflected in its drinks industry. Feeling inspired, he came up with a plan to change this. NASC and its range of branded super premium spirits Blue Harbour, Wild Wombat and Sliver was born.
